Connecting to Your FTP Account
Wondering how you can connect to your FTP account? Look for your FTP Client below...

When it comes to connecting to an FTP there are various software applications that allow you to do so. Some of these FTP Clients are CuteFTP, WS-FTP, Bullet Proof FTP, and Smart FTP.

Any of these and other FTP clients can be utilized to connect to your hosting account with iP:Hostmaster. We would like to get into detail about each client but as they very similar we found it simpler to let you know what needs to be entered into the specific fields that each client will ask you for.

Commonly Asked for Information

Each client has a standard set of fields for which you will need information, below you will find the name of the field as well as what you require to setup your FTP Connection.

Host Address:
Here you enter your Web site URL in the format of: www.yourdomain.com
Please Note: Do not enter the "http://"

Username: (User ID/Login)
This field requires you to enter your Client ID provided by iP:Hostmaster which is in the form of c0000f.
Please Note: The Client ID is in all lower case letters and case sensitive.

Password:
The password field is self explanatory and requires not much explanation. Here you enter the password assigned to you by your iP:Hostmaster Sales Representative.
Please Note: The password is case sensitive

Once you have logged in with all this information make sure to place all your web site related files in the /public_html/ folder located in your hosting account, this will allow you to see and let others visit your web site.

Any data and files you would like to share anonymously through your web site ftp can be placed under the /public_ftp/ folder which later can be accessed through the ftp.yourdomain.com URL.

If you experience connection problems or disconnection issues, you can try to solve these by changing your Data Connection Type from PORT to PASV. This should correct the issue. The Data Connection Type field can usually be found under the Connection Properties in each FTP Client.
